Herman Haupt Chapman was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 8, 1874. He earned a B.S. and a Bachelor of Agriculture degree from the University of Minnesota and received a Master of Forestry degree from Yale University in 1904. Henry Solon Graves was born on May 3, 1871 in Marietta, Ohio. He was a forester and organized the School of Forestry at Yale University. Graves died in Brattleboro, Vermont on March 7, 1951.
